Body Orchestra and The Aural Club

The Aural Club and Body Orchestra was a double billed work that was performed at Squiggle Space Gallery. Squiggle Space Gallery were two temporary art spaces on Oxford Street, Paddington, that had recently been converted into a gallery from two small, recently, vacated retail stores.

Both performances were intimate in nature with an attendant standing outside, admitting entry to only one or two audience members at a time. The Aural club was a pitch black room where one audience member would sit down while a male beatboxer and a female vocalist/singer would move around them creating an improvised symphony of differing sounds and noises for a 5 to ten minute period.

Body Orchestra was a small space that had mirrors that lined the main opposing walls of the room. Two audience members would enter the space and sit in the corner of the room. Two performers, dressed in white, combined a mix of popping, tutting and vogue style movements with a series of vocalised sounds while moving around the room, creating an operatic symphony of movement and sounds. The performed work was under 10 minutes.

Both works were performed for one night only and went for a number of hours for a mix of audiences, some who had solely come to see the work and others who were merely passing by the venue and didn’t know what to expect.
